Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust uses GS1 standards to trace patient meals from 'Farm to Patient'

The Trust has introduced new software as part of the Scan4Safety programme for implementing GS1 standards.

Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust’s (RCHT) new system will help them manage inventory and purchase to pay workflows. It’ll also give them details for identifying the origin of products and provide significant details of allergens, micro-nutrients and ingredients, including nutritional analysis. This means they’ll be able to trace patient meals from ‘Farm to Patient’, helping with both dietary and product recall requirements.

RCHT is one of the six Scan4Safety demo sites implementing GS1 standards as part of the Department of Health’s eProcurement strategy. As well as the traceability of patient meals, RCHT are also using GS1 standards for patient identification and location management with 100% patient wristbands GS1 compliant and 6,649 Global Location Numbers allocated on their property register.
