Accountabilities:
We’re looking for a talented and experienced marketing manager to join our team on a 12-month maternity cover contract. In this role, you’ll lead marketing activity for GS1 UK within the UK healthcare sector, helping to raise awareness of our work and impact across the industry.
You’ll also be responsible for delivering marketing initiatives that promote the benefits of our partner programme to prospective partners and GS1 UK members. This will involve working closely with our industry engagement and partnerships teams to develop and execute targeted marketing plans that support our three-year corporate strategy.
A key focus of the role will be the planning and management of a major healthcare conference scheduled for 2027, alongside the production of an updated Scan4Safety report. These initiatives are designed to further educate the healthcare sector on the value of GS1 standards in improving patient safety, driving operational efficiencies, and showcasing successful implementation stories.
You’ll be expected to lead the development and delivery of marketing campaigns and events, gather and apply key industry insights, and produce compelling, high-impact content that resonates with our audiences.
Key responsibilities:
Campaign planning, management and delivery
Working in collaboration with the industry engagement, membership, partnerships and marketing teams to lead the development of marketing plans to achieve agreed business and marketing objectives, including:
- Improve awareness and education of GS1 standards and services to NHS trusts and Health Boards across the UK.
- Raise the profile of the GS1 UK partnerships programme and effectively highlight the value to GS1 UK members and prospective partner organisation.
- Increase adoption of GS1 standards within the UK healthcare sector, in particular regarding the growing need for standards use across the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors.
- Plan and implement a successful, educational healthcare conference, leading on all aspect of production including website creation, agenda development, delegate acquisition, creative execution and the generation and distribution of all post-event content.
- Collaborate with third parties and agency partners to deliver on key marketing projects where necessary.
- Execute the deliverables of the marketing value proposition for members of the GS1 UK partnerships programme.
- Management and support with the planning and delivery of the annual GS1 UK partner event.
- Work with GS1 Global and other MO teams to share best practice, identifying strong marketing ideas from other countries that can be implemented within the UK as well as support on any relevant global campaigns for UK market delivery.
- Ensure all available marketing channels are used to maximum effect, including online, email, PPC and social media.
- Ensure all campaigns have clear, targeted messaging and convey a compelling value proposition.
- Review and report on all campaigns against the agreed objectives, and identify key learnings that will increase the effectiveness of future campaigns.
Content creation and management
Working closely with the PR and content marketing manager, you will also:
- Work with the wider healthcare team, digital marketing manager and content manager, to create ideas that improve the communication, awareness and understanding of GS1 UK’s positive contribution to healthcare such as creating compelling case studies and evidence-based use cases.
- Create and manage a content library, creating a core set of slides covering market positioning, strategic focus areas and core services and ad-hoc presentations required to support our spokespeople at conferences and events.
- Maintain our website and engagement across other communication channels by updating and posting all agreed content.
- Ensure all content and creative representations align with the GS1 UK tone of voice and brand identity.
PR and social media
- Create and manage a plan to achieve a good level of visibility of GS1 UK in the relevant healthcare trade journals, partner and social media channels.
Support the development of dedicated, targeted communications to facilitate PR campaigns and public policy messaging.
Email marketing
Working closely with other members of the marketing team, you will also plan and deliver email marketing campaigns by:
- Using our CRM system to ensure all email marketing campaigns are delivered to the relevant target audience.
- Planning and delivering email newsletters to targeted segments of our membership.
- Ensuring all email campaigns are aligned with other delivery channels, specifically online and social.
External event and conference support
Working closely with the marketing executive you will identify opportunities for exhibiting and speaking at third-party events and:
- Manage contra-marketing deals with third-party event organisers.
- Ensure all agreed speakers have maximum impact by supporting the creation of impactful presentations and supporting digital content.
- Plan and develop event collateral and stand messaging to ensure any physical representation is highly targeted to resonate with audience member.
- Report on the results and key learnings of all third-party events.

Background and experience
Essential
- Professional marketing qualification - degree, CIM, CAM.
- Solid experience as a marketing professional, working with and managing external agencies, to implement effective marketing campaigns integrating all communication channels.
- Experience and strong understanding of the UK healthcare sector.
- 5+ years’ experience as a marketing professional, working with and managing external agencies, to implement effective marketing campaigns integrating all communication channels.
- Project management and planning skills.
- Strong copywriting and editing skills – for online and offline.
- Ability to use email marketing and automation software, delivering proven results.
- Consultative style, able to work as a team with other key stakeholders in an organisation of our size.
- Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills.
- Proactive, enthusiastic and committed – a can-do attitude.
- The ability to understand and explain complex ideas in creative ways.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Desirable
- Strong partner marketing experience is preferred.
- Experience using HubSpot.
