HR advisor (1 year FTC)

Accountability:

To deliver GS1 UK’s general HR services, ensuring compliance with employment laws and to take an advisory role on best practices for all people matters.
 

Key responsibilities

Employee relations
  • Act as the key point of contact providing complex ER advice to managers and the senior leadership team for issues including misconduct, grievance, performance management, flexible working, long term and short term absence
  • Proactively manage employee relations casework and represent the HR team at formal HR meetings such as disciplinary and grievance hearings, taking minutes and drafting outcomes
  • Mediate workplace conflicts and promote positive employee relations
  • Lead on managing staff absence levels and business partner with line managers and senior leadership to respond appropriately to staff absence and health issues
     
Performance & development
  • Support and coach managers in the consistent adoption of our performance management system including setting appropriate objectives and fair and accurate performance reviews
  • Manage our learning core programme ensuring appropriate learning courses are scheduled that meet staff demand
  • Identify new learning needs within the company
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with key stakeholders and collaborate on workforce planning.  This could involve supporting formal redundancy processes
     
HR policy & compliance
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures ensuring legal compliance and industry best practice
  • Ensure employee compliance with regulations and internal policies and processes
  • Contribute to the diversity and inclusion action plan as and when required
     
Recruitment & Onboarding/Offboarding
  • Facilitate the full recruitment life cycle including advising managers on recruitment and selection campaigns, reviewing job descriptions and job terms, and participating in interview panels when necessary
  • Review and maintain our preferred suppliers/recruitment agencies, negotiating terms and rates
  • Review and manage all onboarding and off boarding processes including reference checks, generating offer letters and coordinate the induction of new employees, seeking ways to improve the new joiner and leaver experience
  • Ensure exit interviews are conducted at all levels
     
Workplace wellbeing & engagement
  • Support employee engagement initiatives to enhance employee skills and engagement
  • Continue to grow the wellbeing programme for all staff including mental and physical health initiatives
  • Contribute to the diversity and inclusion programme as and when required
     
HR operations
  • To act as the first point of contact for all HR matters and queries both in person and through managing the HR inbox
  • Ensure HR records accurate and compliant with GDPR and data protection laws
  • Produce regular analysis of HR KPIs to the exec team and add commentary where appropriate
  • Support the implementation of HR projects and promote the profile of the HR function
  • Fully administer the full in-house payroll function ensuring compliancy with tax requirements
  • Complete the monthly pension file submission using the companys pension portal
  • Administer all employee benefits and manage the renewal process along with the CFO
  • Carry out other ad hoc duties as requested by the head of HR
     

Person specification:

Background and experience 
  • Solid experience working within a HR environment, in a generalist role with a good understanding of HR processes and procedures
  • Experience of dealing with complex ER issues and casework
  • Preferably an HR qualification of level 5 certificate or above or equivalent knowledge/HR experience
  • Solid employment law knowledge
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience and understanding of processing payroll
  • Proven experience in managing the full recruitment lifecycle for multiple campaigns and of successfully recruiting quality employees, sitting on interview panels, drafting JDs
  • Evidence of having dealt in an organised manner, juggling multiple priorities and with attention to detail where there are competing demands on workload and deliverables
  • Strong PC skills : Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Excellent organisation and administration skills
  • Strong numeracy skills and a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner
