Data and insights analyst

Job purpose:

To create a data and insights driven culture that aligns GS1 data with the delivery of our three-year strategy and supports our purpose. Deliver actionable insights that will drive business decisions; forecast membership acquisition and retention; and deliver segmentation of our base to target future services/products. In summary, demonstrate that through insights we can drive sustainable growth.

Main responsibilities:

  • Working in conjunction with head of data drive the adoption of the GS1 data plan.  Ensure the plan is up to date and communicated to stakeholders
  • Drive the adoption of PowerBI by migrating all reporting/dashboards into the platform.  Identify super users and provide training/support so that federated reporting based on trusted data allows a self-service capability to be built
  • Visualise and present actionable data-driven insights to board level stakeholders making data digestible and meaningful, in line with corporate branding/style guides.
  • Create high quality and timely insights to support decision making for recruitment and retention programmes
  • Ensure our data present one version of the truth, maintain and build on this to ensure the business can interact and use its data with confidence
  • Make recommendations for improvements to our core data set using reliable, reputable external data sources. Ensure the Insights SQL database is fit for purpose and design SQL transformations to store data in the most effective way to meet the reporting needs of the business
  • Take a central role in the company-wide data quality project, advising board level stakeholders of the best approach to drive improvements in data cleansing, structure and enhancements
  • Educate and guide the business on how member data can be used to support business decisions and shape strategy
  • Predict risk areas in data collection, accuracy and reporting and implement an appropriate data model to mitigate the risk
  • Provide accurate insight and statistics for inclusion in reports and presentations
  • Conduct regular reviews with the broader team to discuss insight requirements and needs, building frameworks to capture data and reporting requirements to ensure the how and why are documented
  • Identify opportunities to improve the performance of the business insights, including additional data sources and analysis
  • Act as a business partner to other departments to build strong relationships across the organisation to fully appreciate the business strategy and facilitate evidence-based decision making
  • Document and enhance data governance assets to ensure an up-to-date catalogue of our data estate is maintained
  • Create a central repository of analytical insight so business stakeholders can access and self-serve a central repository of reports and analysis

Person specification:

Background and experience
  • Experience as a go-to resource for data within a department or large team, providing strategic guidance on collation and reporting of data
  • Experience of being a team player with the ability to support the wider business
  • Ability to interpret data from a variety of sources and translate insights to help inform business decisions and data inspired campaigns
  • Proven experience working with data visualisation solutions and tools, including Power BI
  • Excellent technical skills and competence to bring the data to life for a non-technical audience (Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience of presenting insights to all levels of the business using data storytelling.
  • Database management and manipulation tools including SQL and Python
  • Supplier / agency management to identify and work with third parties to enrich our data and knowledge
  • Degree level or higher relevant qualification
  • Minimum five years business experience 
Desirable
  • An understanding of the challenges of a subscription/SaaS or membership organisation
  • Google Analytics
  • CRM software, Hubspot and or NetSuite experience
  • Customer journey mapping skills to drive optimisation through a test and learn approach
