Verified by GS1

Trust and efficiency start with your information.

Verified by GS1 is a global solution that enables retailers
and marketplaces to verify the identity of a product
by querying the GS1 registry platform.

Building trust and efficiency

Verified by GS1 builds trust between retailers, brand owners and consumers leading to more sales, less returns and less counterfeit products. The ultimate benefit is greater efficiency because information in retailer catalogues is based on correct product identity.

Unique product identifier + 6 attributes = Solid foundation for sharing consistent data

GS1 has been working with industry leaders and the Consumer Goods Forum to develop Verified by GS1, a global registry to ensure all products have a unique identifier (GTIN) including six attributes that can be globally verified.

Brand owners are required to share their products and provide the product attributes with the global registry. Retailers and marketplaces, in turn, can access this data at any time using Verified by GS1.

Currently Verified by GS1 is only in available for food and near food brands. More categories will be accepted in the future.

Attributes

Attributes

  1. Global Trade Item Number (GTIN)
  2. Brand name
  3. Product description
  4. Product image
  5. Global product category (GPC)
  6. Net content / unit of measure
  7. Target market (Country of sale)

How Verified by GS1 works for brands in the UK

Brand owners and GS1 UK members can use productDNA to share their information to the GS1 registry. As soon as all the necessary fields have been filled in a product can be activated. The seven product attributes are automatically shared to the GS1 registry.

What should you do now?

Before you are ready to share your product data you need to make sure you have all of the necessary information and that your GTINs are ready.

Step 1

Ensure your active GTINs are properly structured with a valid GS1 Company Prefix licenced to your company in accordance with the GTIN Management Standard.

Step 2

Ensure all your product identifiers (GTINs) are unique, taking into account that product variations such as size and formulation require different GTINs.
