How it works:

Tick

Obtain a GS1 Company Prefix (GCP): The GCP is unique to your company and will serve as the basis for creating identification numbers for your medical devices.

Contact us to get a Global Company Prefix.

Tick

Assign a Device Identifier: Using your GCP, assign a GTIN to each of your medical device lines. GTINs are used as your Device Identifiers, enabling you to distinguish one product type from another

Tick

Define your Production Identifiers: PI typically includes information such as the batch or lot number, expiration date and serial number.

Tick

Barcode generation: You will need to encode your UDI identifiers in the appropriate GS1 barcode. If you don’t already have software to do this, there are GS1 UK partners who can support you with this.

Tick

Print GS1 UDI barcodes/labels: There are different printing methods to apply the barcode to your device. Again, GS1 UK partners can provide the services to ensure the barcodes you produce adhere to GS1 standards.

By following GS1 standards, you can ensure that your UDI implementation is compliant with regulatory requirements and compatible with systems and processes across the healthcare industry supply chain.

It’s important to note that, neither GS1 nor its member organisations nor their staff have real or apparent authority to speak for the regulatory authorities or grant exemptions.
