GS1 UK service for trusts wanting help with their patient wristbands
Any trust wishing to check the GS1 compliance of their patient wristbands can apply for a free stamped addressed envelope to send an example to GS1 UK for checking. All acute trusts are expected to be providing GS1 compliant wristbands to all patients, according to ISB 1077.
The use of GS1 standards on patient wristbands is key for the accurate identification of patients and to ensure patient safety. A recent report from the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch recommended that scanning systems be introduced across acute trusts and the ability to scan patient wristbands is a fundamental part of this.
