Barcode verification for hospitals

Submit a product barcode for verification.

Having trouble scanning a product barcode? Let us know by completing the form below.

A big part of the Scan4Safety programme involves scanning barcodes to make sure the right product, is being used for the right procedure, for the right patient, in the right place.

Medical device manufacturers have a responsibility to use GS1 standard barcodes on their products.

We work closely everyday with these manufacturers but sometimes the barcode isn't quite right.

Scanning a medical device

When the barcode won’t scan this is usually because the wrong barcode type is used or the data is not structured correctly. There may also be multiple different barcodes on the same product so it can be difficult to know which one to scan.

These challenges lead to manual data entry, which is slow and prone to human error.

If you have any problems with product barcodes, please use the form below to submit your query.

Before you submit, here's an example of a medical device label that displays all the information you will need to send, and highlights some common errors encountered by other hospitals.

Do not worry if you do not have all of this information, however the more detail you can provide the better.
