Head of data

Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the company on all data matters, both internal and external, creating a culture of data driven thinking and decision-making
  • Maintain the integrity and security of all data, ensuring compliance with external regulations and corporate data standards and policies
  • Provide a high-quality data analysis and insights infrastructure
  • Develop our data strategy to meet current and future business needs 

Key responsibilities:

  • Define, implement and maintain a robust data governance framework, including data ownership, capture, processing, use of, sharing, privacy and security policies
  • Align all aspects of operational and strategic data management to our business requirements and priorities, in support of decision-making and future product and service development
  • Drive high standards of data integrity and quality across all data sources, establishing the metrics to monitor data management and governance effectiveness
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend innovative solutions and methodologies to enhance data capabilities
  • Work collaboratively across the business to embed a data-driven corporate culture 
  • As GS1 UK’s data officer ensure compliance with data protection regulations
  • Own the end-to-end delivery of data and business intelligence activities
  • Work closely with the head of IS to ensure alignment of respective data and IS strategies and policies
  • Work closely with the head of product to ensure the security and integrity of GS1 UK’s key issuing services
  • Provide a comprehensive data analysis and insights capability across the business, with particular focus on developing a best-in-class membership management information system
  • Ensure our members’ data is compliant with GS1 regulations with regard to number integrity and prefix/number allocation

Person specification:

Background and experience
  • Proven track record of delivering data governance frameworks
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building quality data infrastructures with associated supplementary data sources, data quality standards and stewardship
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of existing and emerging analytical machine learning and AI technologies 
  • Excellent understanding of compliance, privacy and data regulations as they apply to GS1 UK 
  • Extensive experience in data modelling techniques and applied analytical approaches
