Accountabilities

This position involves collaborating with the credit control team to manage the debtor ledger by ensuring timely payments, minimising bad debt, and supporting consistent cash flow. Responsibilities include using the ticketing system to organise unpaid invoices and purchase orders, as well as addressing outstanding or disputed accounts efficiently. 

The role also requires coordination with colleagues from other departments and contributes to cash collection, membership growth, and the achievement of organisational objectives.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor customer accounts to ensure timely collection of outstanding invoices
  • Contact customers via phone, email, and written correspondence regarding overdue accounts
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies or disputes on customer accounts. Any technical assistance on GS1 UK standards will be passed to another team
  • Maintain records of all collection activities and communications
  • Prepare reports on debtor balances, aged debt analysis, and bad debt provisions
  • Work closely with the member support, retention and Industry engagement teams to resolve issues impacting payments
  • Recommend accounts for legal action, escalation or write-off when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policy and relevant legislation
  • Input customer invoices with purchase orders into customer websites as required
  • Review customer accounts, log errors, request refunds, and investigate unusual items. Update customer contact details as needed
  • Review and develop credit control processes procedures to improve debtor levels for both membership and other revenue streams
  • Regularly evaluate internal and external IT changes to identify potential process improvements, including enhancements to existing communications and IT automation processes
  • Undertake other ad-hoc duties to contribute to the achievement of GS1 UK’s objectives and support the finance team's goals

Background and experience
Essential
  • Proven experience as a credit controller, accounts receivable clerk, or similar role
  • Minimum of four to five years’ experience in a similar role
  • Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and credit control processes
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial software
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Desirable
  • Knowledge of relevant laws relating to debt collection
  • Relevant qualification, e.g., AAT
