Chief financial officer

Accountabilities:

  • To ensure the financial integrity of GS1 UK
  • To deliver internal business efficiency and service excellence to members through the innovative and effective deployment of information systems and processes
  • To maintain an effective and robust compliance and governance framework
  • To ensure the integrity and security of all corporate data providing a data analysis and insight resource to support the company’s strategy

Key responsibilities: 

  • As a member of the GS1 UK executive team drive the development and delivery of GS1 UK’s three-year strategy and annual operating plans
  • Develop and maintain all necessary financial and information systems and processes in support of strategic objectives
  • Support the delivery of GS1 UK’s strategic and operating plans through the provision of appropriate and timely business information
  • Manage the provision of an efficient financial budgeting and forecasting process to ensure the sound management of the company’s finances and that all financial objectives are met
  • Provide timely information, analysis and advice relating to financial management and information systems to the CEO, supervisory and operating boards
  • Manage GS1 UK’s cash and investments in line with agreed investment mandate
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the external auditors to ensure compliance with all financial and legal requirements
  • In conjunction with members of the leadership team, negotiate and manage all vendor contracts to ensure that services provide optimum value to the company
  • In conjunction with members of the leadership team review all proposals for new business opportunities and ensure that appropriate qualitative and quantitative performance measures are in place
  • Devise and implement appropriate financial and administrative procedures and performance measures for the company and ensure that these operate effectively and are communicated to all staff
  • Develop and maintain an effective and proportionate compliance and governance framework such that the company meets all legal and best-practice requirements
  • Develop and maintain a corporate data management strategy to ensure data integrity and security
  • Provide timely data analysis and insight in support of the company’s operations and strategy 
  • Act as GS1 UK’s legal representative as required
  • Lead and develop your team to ensure that they are appropriately motivated and trained to meet their objectives and carry out their responsibilities to the required standards and in keeping with GS1 UK values

  • To fulfil the statutory duties as company secretary and an officer of the company

Person specification:

Background and experience
  • Finance - experience as head of a finance function. A qualified accountant with a minimum of ten years’ industry experience post-qualification
  • Significant experience of leading IS in a company / industry where IS plays a major part in influencing
    corporate strategy and its delivery – both internally and externally facing
  • Technical knowledge – general IT fluency including knowledge of emerging IT technology and business solution trends and potential impacts on the associated business functions
  • Management skills – understanding of advanced management techniques and processes (e.g. cost-benefit
    analysis, decision analysis, negotiation, and financial analysis)
  • General – strong commercially, able to assess and interpret finance and business information proactively and take an active part in board discussions
  • Business transformation – active participation or leadership of a ‘business transformation’ project(s)
