A big part of the Scan4Safety programme involves scanning barcodes in the supply chain to the point-of-care.

This helps prevent administering the wrong medicine to the wrong patient, prevents administration of expired products and provides immediate traceability for medicines when there is a product recall.
We work closely with pharmaceutical manufacturers but sometimes the barcode isn't quite right.
- When the barcode will not scan this is usually because the wrong barcode type is used or the data is not structured correctly
- There may also be multiple different barcodes on the same product so it can be difficult to know which one to scan
- There may not be a barcode on the product
- For bottles, vials and ampoules, there may be a barcode on the box of the products but not on the product itself
These challenges lead to manual data entry, which is slow and prone to human error.
If you have any problems with product barcodes, please use the form below to submit your query.
Before you submit, here's an example of a fictitious medicine label that displays the information you need to submit.

Do not worry if you do not have all this information, however the more detail you can provide the better.
