eBay and Boots join GS1 UK’s board

Industry organisation evolves to meet customer needs

London, 8 November 2019 – eBay’s Vice President of UK Trading Murray Lambell has joined the supervisory board of global standards organisation GS1 UK.

The appointment strengthens GS1 UK’s marketplace team, which builds a community for members selling via online platforms to connect with others and works with industry leaders such as eBay, Amazon and Alibaba to increase adoption of its standards.

Lambell joined eBay at the beginning of 2008 and has occupied a number of positions including heading up its European cross-border trade division. Prior to joining eBay, Lambell spent eight years with British Airways.

The appointment to the supervisory board of Wendy Manning, Head of Retail Supply & Innovation at Boots, ensures GS1 UK continues to deliver relevance across the broader retail landscape. Manning moved to Boots in 2018 from Coca-Cola, where she had been for sixteen years and her retail credentials were forged in her early career at Procter & Gamble.

eBay and Boots join the likes of Sainsbury’s, John Lewis, Tesco, Amazon and Unilever on GS1 UK’s supervisory board, which is chaired by Chris Tyas who spent more than three decades with Nestle.

The new supervisory board members were announced at GS1 UK’s AGM in Marylebone yesterday (Thursday 7th), where Marcus Dunsmore of Mondelez and Terry Murphy, formerly of John Lewis, received Life Member Awards as they stepped down from the board.

The AGM also featured a keynote speech from Nick Brown, Head of Sustainability for Coca-Cola European Partners, on traceability and the principles of well-designed Deposit Return Schemes.

After the AGM, GS1 UK hosted a Champions Lunch for individuals who have worked with them and the wider UK industry to drive the development and adoption of data standards.

Lawrence Giordano, Data Governance Manager of Morrisons and Peter McKeown, Customer Team Logistics Leader at Procter & Gamble were among those recognised for their contribution.

The AGM rounds off a busy period for GS1 UK after it recently announced that Sainsbury’s had signed up to productDNA and that it been made a strategic partner by the Department for International Trade.

Chris Tyas, chairman of GS1 UK, said: “Our supervisory board helps establish the strategic direction of GS1 UK and, together with our 39,000 members, gives us the industry perspective with regard to the latest trends and sentiment across a variety of sectors.

“Adding individuals of Murray and Wendy’s calibre to the group will strengthen our industry expertise and ensure we continue to evolve by driving the customer experience agenda powered by quality of data.”
