Jin Sahota, Director of Supply Chain at the Department of Health, joins GS1 UK Supervisory Board

Appointment will support drive to implement GS1 standards across the NHS

London, 14 July 2016 –Jin Sahota, Director of Supply Chain, Commercial Division, Financial, Commercial and NHS at the Department of Health has joined the GS1 UK Supervisory Board.

Jin’s role and influence in the healthcare industry will be of enormous benefit in the drive to implement GS1 standards across all NHS Acute Trusts in England as specified in the Department of Health’s eProcurement strategy. The strategy mandates that any service or product procured by Trusts must be compliant with GS1 standards to provide greater regulatory compliance, increase operational efficiencies and most importantly to significantly improve patient safety and the quality of care.

Jin Sahota, Director of Supply Chain, Commercial Division, Financial, Commercial and NHS at the Department of Health said: “I’m pleased to join GS1 UK’s Supervisory Board and to be able to play a direct part in the great work the organisation is doing in healthcare. Implementing GS1 standards across the NHS is already delivering many benefits – for Trusts, their suppliers and most importantly our patients. I hope that as a member of the Supervisory Board I can help drive this implementation deeper and more widely across the whole of the NHS.”

Jin recently joined the Department of Health as a Senior Civil Servant managing Supply Chain, Supplier Relationship Management and Supply Chain Resilience. He has over 25 years of experience in managing global operations and sourcing positions and has lived and worked in London, Ireland, Germany and France. Throughout his career, he has held various senior leadership positions and has developed strong commercial and technical skills.

James Spittle, Chairman at GS1 UK said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jin Sahota as our newest Supervisory Board member. His great expertise in global operations will contribute significantly to helping us deliver new standards and solutions for our healthcare members. We already work closely with the Department of Health to ensure the implementation of GS1 standards and to make the eProcurement strategy a success – and Jin’s appointment will only help reinforce these efforts.”

The Supervisory Board is responsible for the governance of GS1 UK, including establishing strategic direction and providing guidance to the Operating Board. The Board ensures all members are properly represented and promote GS1 UK to influencers and stakeholders. All members of the Board are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting and are representative of the industries GS1 UK works with, coming from both large organisations and SMEs.
