All your GTIN questions answered for marketplaces

Online marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay or Google Shopping, all now call for sellers to include a product identifier on all their listings.

This requirement has cause some confusion and uncertainty for online sellers, on what they need to do and why.

GS1 UK recently teamed up with Tamebay, a leading online resource for ecommerce SMEs selling on eBay and marketplaces, to help answer some of burning questions on all things GTIN, EAN and UPCs.

Lorna Beament, Marketplaces Engagement Manager at GS1 UK, received a wide variety of queries from the Tamebay readership, ranging from allocation and pricing, to who owns GS1 UK. These include:

  • Who polices the use of GTINs
  • Do you have a centralised product registry?
  • Why should I pay for GTINs, surely the manufacturer should do this?

Read all the full list of questions and answers in our new FAQ page for marketplace sellers.
