Winners of our 2nd GS1 UK champion awards are announced

Nestlé, Unilever and North Tees & Hartlepool Hospitals win the 2016 GS1 UK industry champion awards

For the second year, we’re proud to announce the GS1 UK champion award winners, from the retail and healthcare industries. The three winners are recognised for their continuous drive, commitment and dedication in the development and adoption of GS1 standards for the benefit of the wider industry.

The winners were announced at our 40th Annual General Meeting:

  • GS1 UK retail industry champion – Dominic Hawkins, Customer Supply Chain Manager (UK & International), Nestlé
  • GS1 UK retail industry champion – Leanne Gorin, Head of Customer Operations, Unilever
  • GS1 UK healthcare industry champion – Jane Hawkes, Head of Procurement and Supplies, North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals NHS Trust

GS1 UK Champion Award Winner 2016 - Dominic Hawkins

Dominic Hawkins, Customer Supply Chain Manager (UK & International) at Nestlé said: “I’m delighted to win the GS1 UK industry champion award in retail for our work with Digital DNA, a collaborative industry programme that will deliver lasting change by providing high quality product data for the consumer. By collaborating with other leading retailers and suppliers we’re aiming to enhance the consumer experience in this increasingly digital age.”

Leanne Gorin, Head of Customer Operations at Unilever said: “I’m pleased to have won a GS1 UK industry champion award for retail. Unilever has supported the GS1 UniqueID initiative since the beginning, as we recognise the importance of industry working together to solve the challenges around unique product identification. As part of the project we’ve delivered the new GS1 GTIN Management Standard, helping make product identification easier and more efficient for everyone in the industry - saving us all time and money.”

Jane Hawkes, Head of Procurement and Supplies at North Tees and Hartlepool Hospitals NHS Trust said: “It gives me the greatest pleasure to accept the GS1 UK industry champion award for healthcare on behalf of our team. Bringing GS1 standards to a wider audience is a key priority for us – as we’re all eager to drive their broad adoption both within our hospital and further afield. Being one of the first adopters, as a Scan4Safety Demonstrator site, we’re always keen to showcase our progress so we can share our learnings.”

The inaugural GS1 UK champion awards were introduced in our previous AGM in November 2015 where Tesco PLC, NHS South of England Procurement Services and New Look all won.
