MHRA extends standstill period for medical device regulation

A twelve-month extension is established with an aim to bring new regulations into force in July 2024.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency announces an extension to the standstill period for medical device regulations until July 2024.

As part of preparation and development of the future medical device regulations, the MHRA have announced a twelve-month extension to the current standstill period. The aim of this extention is to "provide additional time to develop the legislation and support system readiness".

With the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) agreement in place, the MHRA is "required to notify the WTO and the draft regulations will be published by the WTO for a period of at least 60 days for comment prior to the regulations being laid within Parliament.

This commentary period will also provide stakeholders with the opportunity to provide comment on the draft legislation before it comes into effect.
