Cookie Crumbles started 20 years ago, with the aim to teach children the basics of cooking and baking and to simply have fun in the kitchen.
Their founder Carola Weymouth takes our Q&A session.
How and why did you start the business?
We believe that everyone should be able to experience the joys of home baking and I felt that there was a gap in the market for a premium baking mix using only natural ingredients. Our ready mixes take all the fuss out of the process, combining the finest natural ingredients, so everyone can make delicious home-baked treats with perfect results every time.
How long have you been a GS1 member?
We launched our products 3 years ago and have been a member of GS1 UK for 3 years.
Do you trade with any partners/channels?
We trade both online and with retailers such as Moonpig, Selfridges and Ocado. We're also with Whole Foods Market, as every reputable food brand wants to sell there. We gained listings straight away and are the biggest brand in the category in Whole Foods UK.
What is a typical day like for you?
Each day can be very varied. It always contains some desk work but we also still teach cookery to special needs children and offer private kids cookery parties. So it can involve entertaining 30 kids and making sure that all their food is delicious and well presented.
What are the main pros/cons to running your own business?
Flexible timing is definitely a big plus and biggest con is always taking a laptop on holiday and checking emails.
What are currently your biggest challenges in the business? What keeps you up at night?
Acquiring new retail channels - we would love to find a department store chain who would like to take on our products.
What are your plans for the business for the next 12 months?
We're aiming to get listings in Waitrose and / or John Lewis.
Tell us an interesting fact about you?
Jeremy Clarkson used to be my neighbor in London!
Who inspires you?
My daughters - who are awesome, driven and kind girls.
What top tip/piece of advice would you give to our other brands/sellers?
Have fun and don’t loose sleep over problems- there’s always a solution to be found.
