Meet ZAHEDA® Skincare

ZAHEDA® Skincare is a naturally active marine and botanical skin care brand.

Their founder and skin expert Zaheda Hafez takes our Q&A session.

How and why did you start the business?

Inspired by my clients skin concerns, in 2010 I collaborated with leading skin scientist to formulated a naturally active marine and botanical skin care range. It took me 3 years to perfect the formulations and in 2013 the range was complete. The range has just been re-branded; ZAHEDA® Skincare and is the evolution of my 20 years expertise at The Laser Treatment Clinic in Harley Street London where we offer cutting edge solutions to modern day skin concerns.

How long have you been a GS1 member?

Since 2012. I applied when I first required barcodes for ZAHEDA® Skincare.

Do you trade with any partners/channels?

No not yet. But seeing how well received the products have been we would like to work with a store such as John Lewis or Selfridges in the near future as we feel they’d provide the opportunity to reach a wider range of our target audience and also increase our brand awareness. It’s an impressive skin care range and we are just waiting to be discovered…

What's a typical day like for you?

zaheda imageI’m up at about 7am wether it’s a working day or not. I love that quite time before everyone else is up. I like to run through emails whilst having my tea and organise myself. It gives me a head start to the day. Then I have my breakfast.

I’m either at the clinic or in my home office working on different aspects of both businesses, the clinic and ZAHEDA® Skincare. There’s always something new going on with advertising, marketing, meetings, calls and sometimes I even have time for a fun lunch with friends.

Then I make my way to the clinic. Once at the clinic its back to back consultations until I leave Weekends are family time and I also tend to organise my week ahead.

What are the main pros/cons to running your own business?

There are so many and different ones for all businesses. But my list would be;
You can create your own working environment.
You can manage your time better to suit your personal life.
You can hire people you like working with.
Financial gain (hopefully)

If there's a problem, it falls on you.
You have to put in a lot of extra-long hours.
At times, there is uncertainty.
There are no guarantees that your business will succeed.

What are currently your biggest challenges in the business? What keeps you up at night?

Keeping up with constant change. But ive learnt to relax and not let it keep me up at night.

What are your plans for the business for the next 12 months?

We would like to work with a store like John Lewis or Selfridges as we feel they’d provide a great opportunity to reach our target audience and increase our brand awareness.

Tell us an interesting fact about you?

As a child, I made my own version of perfume from rose petals, bottled it and tried selling it at a makeshift stall I made in front of the gates of my house. That was my first experience in beauty and business...

Who inspires you?

I cannot mention any one person. There have been so many wonderful people from personal to business, who have inspired me along the way.

What top tip/piece of advice would you give to our other brands/sellers?

Don’t be afraid to take risks. One of the most exciting parts of being an entrepreneur is the thrill and exhilaration you get from seeing if something works.
