Follow the steps below to create a GTIN-14 for packaging levels using My Numberbank.

Numbered

To create a GTIN-14 you first need to have assigned a GTIN-13 to the point-of-sale or base item, otherwise the option won’t appear.

Numbered

Once the GTIN-13 has been assigned correctly, click Create - you’ll see a new page load which contains the GTIN-14s you can create from that GTIN-13.

Numbered

Click directly on to one of the numbers and add a description.

Numbered

In the description, as well as detailing what the packaging level contains, make you add the quantity of the content too.

GTIN-14s beginning with 9

GTIN-14s beginning with 9 are reserved for boxes of variable measure things, for example, cuts of cheese or lengths of cable so please don’t use them for cases of fixed weight items.

GTIN-14’s never begin with a zero.  If you encounter a 14-digit number that begins with a zero, it's typically a GTIN-13 or GTIN-12 with additional zeros at the beginning - this is fine as some database fields and barcodes expect a 14-digit number, so you need to insert zeroes in front of shorter length GTINs to pad them out.
