Marketing Manager - SME and marketplaces

Overall Purpose:

To manage and be responsible for marketing of GS1 UK services and standards to small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and people trading on marketplaces, like eBay and Amazon. Create and deliver marketing campaigns to drive awareness of GS1 standards and deliver new member acquisition.

Job responsibilities

Lead the marketing planning for SME and marketplaces teams

Working in collaboration with our SME and marketplaces industry engagement teams, develop marketing strategies and plans to achieve agreed business and marketing objectives, including:

  • Supporting the teams in their goal to accelerate lead generation, acquisition and engagement of GS1 UK members
  • Produce marketing communications to clearly articulate the benefits of GS1, our standards and partners to prospective members and existing members of GS1 UK

Campaign planning, management and delivery

Working closely with other members of the marketing team, you will also:

  • Plan, manage and deliver creative and impactful integrated marketing campaigns to support our business needs for the sectors
  •  Ensure all available marketing channels are used to maximum effect, including online, email, PPC and social media
  • Guarantee all campaigns have clear, targeted messaging and convey a compelling value proposition
  • Review and report on all campaigns against the agreed objectives, and identify key learnings that will increase the effectiveness of future campaigns

Content creation and management

Working closely with the content manager and other members of the marketing team, you will also:

  • Create compelling and impactful content by writing, editing and proofing content and communications for promotional material, online content, social media, email campaigns and newsletters
  • Manage and develop collateral to support the SME and marketplaces teams including a presentation library. Creating a core set of slides covering market positioning, strategic focus areas and core services and ad-hoc presentations required to support our spokespeople at conferences and events
  • Identify opportunities for supporting imagery, infographics and video that simplify our messaging and relay complex processes and ideas in creative formats, and manage the process to create this content
  • Ensure our website is maintained by updating and posting all agreed digital content
     

Email marketing

Working closely with other members of the marketing team, you will also plan and deliver email marketing campaigns by:

  • Using our CRM system to ensure all email marketing campaigns are delivered to the relevant target audience
  • Reporting and analysis of the performance of email campaign with key insights being used for future campaigns


Event and conference support

Identify opportunities for exhibiting, sponsoring or speaking at third-party events and:

  • Manage contra-marketing deals with third-party events
  • Ensure all agreed speakers have maximum impact by supporting the creation of impactful presentations and supporting digital content
  • Report on the results and key learnings of all third-party events

You will also develop and manage programmes and content for our own events, ensure the creation of impactful presentations and supporting digital content.

PR and media

Identify opportunities and talking points for industry commentary by the heads of SME/marketplaces.

  • Develop key messages and discussion points with key stakeholders
  • Monitor, develop relationships and engage with key media titles to ensure coverage

Other

Carry out other duties as agreed by head of marketing.

Background and experience

Essential experience & knowledge

  • Professional marketing qualification - degree, CIM, CAM
  • Solid experience as a marketing professional. Working with internal teams and managing external agencies, to implement effective integrated marketing campaigns
  • Experience of product/service marketing in a B2B environment, ideally within the marketplaces or small business sector
  • A digital native who has a proven track record of driving results through digital channels including social media, web and email
  • Project management and planning skills
  • Exceptional copywriting and editing skills – for online and offline
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office applications – Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint

  • Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills
  • Proactive, enthusiastic and committed – a can-do attitude
  • The ability to understand and explain complex ideas in creative ways

Desirable

  • Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, PremierePro
