The foodservice and convenience team

Maximising engagement, growth and standards adoption in foodservice

Our foodservice team is responsible for ensuring we have the right approach and programmes in place. They promote growth and standards adoption through engagement and collaboration with a broad base of industry stakeholders, including trade associations, key industry commentators, solution providers and different member businesses, ensuring that we are responding to trends and focusing our activities on industry priorities.

The team keeps a keen eye on GS1’s global activities too, and often gets groups from industry together to collaborate on common challenges.

Steve HammansSteve Hammans

Industry Development Manager, Foodservice

I joined GS1 UK in April 2013 and represent our members’ interests in the foodservice sector, helping them understand how GS1 standards and solutions can address the sectors' business needs and resolve any problem areas. Increased adoption of GS1 standards across the sector benefits everyone: the common enemy here is inefficiency.

Before joining GS1 UK I was at Bidvest, where I was a Supply Chain Manager, and prior to that, a Business Development Manager at Sainsbury’s.

I passionately believe that understanding foodservice supply chains starts at the ‘fork’ rather than the ‘farm’ and London is now arguably the best place globally to see new dining concepts and trends. In this respect, I’ve unintentionally become GS1 UK’s ‘go to man’ for restaurant recommendations!
