EAS RFID

Enhanced loss prevention and real time merchandise visibility for retailers

Key benefits
  • Increase sales
  • Reduce operational costs
  • Reduce shrinkage
  • Improve customer satisfaction
  • Increase on-shelf availability

Global retail theft is growing, up 6.6% from 2010 levels and equaling 1.5% of global retail sales. 43% of this loss is due to shoplifting and 35% is due to employee theft. The scale is such that retail crime on average costs families an extra £200 per year on their shopping bill.

Using Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS), retailers have managed to partly reduce theft. However, the technology is limited. EAS can’t help with inventory management, returns or the detection of counterfeit products. Furthermore, EAS is not integrated with manufacturers’ systems, which means shrinkage is difficult to detect after stock is distributed to the retailers.

By combining EAS and RFID to uniquely identify each item you can tackle theft more effectively and deliver real-time inventory management to:

  • reduce costs and increase efficiency at the point of sale by using a single RFID tag for inventory visibility and loss prevention
  • respond to thefts in-store more effectively by understanding more about the size and scope of the event
  • prevent customer annoyance by only triggering alarms when a theft is occurring
  • increase on-shelf availability of goods by understanding precisely which items have been sold or gone missing
