| Expert groups
advise GS1 UK on development and use of the standards. They agree
the UK position on proposed new or modified standards in the Global
Standards Management Process (GSMP) and give guidance for GS1 UK
members on correct and beneficial use of the standards.
Members of the groups come from GS1 UK member companies
and they make sure that the standards are relevant, practical and
meet UK needs. Group members must be experts in the relevant subject
matter and membership is by invitation.
Bar Code Standards & Implementation Group (BCG)
BCG gives advice to help UK users in the correct implementation
of GS1 BarCode standards and the standard data that the bar codes
represent. It ensures that developments in bar code standards and
related technologies meet UK user requirements and provides information
to help companies use the standards and conform to the rules. Co-chairs:
Martin Morrison, Axicon and Paul Nutter, Scanright Consultants.

Business Messaging Group (BMG)
BMG advises on correct use of GS1 business messaging
standards (traditional EDI and XML), ensures that these standards
are developed to take account of UK users’ needs and helps
GS1 UK members get maximum business benefit from their implementation.
Chair: Janice Kite, Johnson and Johnson.

Data Synchronisation Group (DSG)
DSG identifies the product data that needs to be aligned
between UK trading partners. The group explains the business justification
for these requirements and influences global standards development
so that UK companies may fully benefit from global data synchronisation.
It promotes the use of the GDS standards by UK businesses. Leadership by Boots, Brakes, Comet, Heinz, Makro, Nestle, Richmond Ice-Cream & Unilever.

RFID Interest Group
GS1 UK champions RFID technology as one of its core
products and services and believes that the technology can generate
significant supply chain efficiencies now. The GS1 UK RFID Interest
Group promotes the development and deployment of RFID and EPCglobal technology. It is intended that this group will not duplicate any
action items of the EPCglobal Action and Working Groups but is predominantly
an information service to members and forms a key component of the
EPCglobal Gateway. It is predominantly aimed at members that are
not in the position to subscribe to EPCglobal but would like to
find out more information about the basics of RFID.
The GS1 UK RFID Interest Group meets regularly
and provides updates on the activities and progress of EPCglobal,
its Action and Working Groups and advances in RFID technology. It
also provides a forum for organisations to share learnings and ideas.
Attendance of the GS1 UK RFID Interest Group is free for any GS1
UK member. To join or for more information please contact Tim
Brown on +44 (0)20 7092 3527.

Technical Advisory Committee

and policy and provides high level, user-orientated technical advice
to GS1 UK staff. Chair: Peter Jordan, Kraft.
