Local Healthcare User Group Formed
Following the Department of Health’s selection
of GS1 Standards as the sole system of coding standards in healthcare,
GS1 UK has announced the formation of the GS1 UK Local Healthcare
User Group. Comprised of senior stakeholders from across the healthcare
community, the Local Group will be led by Chair, Janice Kite, UK
eBusiness Manager at Johnson & Johnson Medical Ltd.
Patient safety is top of the agenda and the group plans
to lead the UK healthcare community in the development, adoption
and effective use of global automatic identification standards designed
to improve patient safety.
“Accurate identification of people, places and
things is paramount in the drive to improve the level of safety
in the UK healthcare system,” said Ms Kite. “By creating
a Local Healthcare User Group, we are bringing together all aspects
of the healthcare community and its suppliers in promoting GS1 standards,
which will ultimately help ensure patient safety.”
“The vision is to seek input from and provide
resources to UK healthcare manufactures, wholesalers, hospitals
and pharmacies on the direction of global standards in the healthcare
community,” said Gary Lynch chief executive of GS1 UK. “The
organisation will help to promote global standards to improve patient
safety.”
