This is indeed interesting and is something we have been aware of for some time now. Technically it is clearly a fascinating bar code concept and one which could potentially have many uses.

However, it is important to remember that the GS1 System is an enormously successful solution that is used in supply chains throughout the world - in over 140 countries in fact. An often quoted statistic is that there are over 5 BILLION transactions a day involving the GS1 System. Clearly such a system is working and meeting the needs of the world's supply chains.

Any changes to such a system cannot happen overnight. However, that does not mean the GS1 System does not continue to evolve, and we have thousands of GS1 employees and users from many industries around  the world constantly working on new developments - GS1 DataBar being a good example of this.

We will of course continue to monitor this and all new technologies in our efforts to ensure the GS1 System continues to meet our members' and industry's needs.
