Hello,

I'm thinking of starting to use EDI, but I am unsure of which standard to go for. TRADACOMS seem to be slowly being superseded by EDI and its subsets - like EANCOM and ODETTE, which (as far as I can figure out) are capable of handling more complex messages and address more involved business processes.  Is it also likely that we will need to support more than one standard in our EDI solution to do business? Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

You are correct that TRADACOMS is being superseded by more recent international standards since it is a purely national standard and cannot be used for cross-border trade.  And while some trading partners support more than one standard, use of standards such as GS1 XML and GS1 EANCOM® provides a standardised and predictable structure of the electronic business messages, enabling business partners to communicate business data rapidly, efficiently and accurately, irrespective of their internal hardware or software types, and are widely used globally.

GS1 eCom standards are based on globally recognised GS1 Identification Keys (GTIN, GLN, SSCC etc.) also used for physical identification of items, allowing a direct link between physical flow of goods and information related to them.
