Bar coding items for retail point of sale

Bar Coding ItemsOne of the main uses of GS1 BarCodes is to allow items to be rapidly scanned at a retail store check-out.
The EAN-13 and EAN-8 bar code symbols can be applied to products in a number of ways. They are usually incorporated in the packaging artwork design or printed onto labels which are fixed to the product.

Bar coding traded units

Bar Coding Trade UnitsGS1 BarCodes are often used to identify units traded between a supplier and a retailer.
By enabling rapid identification of the produce in a carton or tray at the goods delivery point, GS1 BarCodes reduce identification errors, speed up the process and enable products to be traced back to a supplier.

Bar coding logistics units

Barcoding Logistics UnitsGS1 has worked with industry to develop a standard label format to uniquely identify individual pallets or other types of logistical units.
