Social responsibility

How GS1 UK is making a positive contribution to the environment and community

Sustainability at work

We’re committed to sustainable growth and we know it’s our responsibility to do our bit for the environment.

How we’re reducing CO2 emissions:

  • Electricity – we’re phasing in low-energy equipment and energy-saving technology like motion-sensor lighting and have introduced a ‘switch off’ policy.
  • Travel – we use videoconferencing where we can

How we’re reducing waste:

  • We’re switching our member communications to email
  • We only print when we really need to
  • We recycle in the office.

Plus, GS1 standards help organisations around the world to be more sustainable.

Our charity: Fairbridge
GS1 UK staff organise fundraising for Fairbridge, a charity supporting inner city young people across the UK. Fairbridge helps young people to develop confidence, motivation and skills to turn their lives around. It’s close to the hearts of our staff and GS1 UK members.

We’re also exploring ways to provide real, pragmatic help to Fairbridge, to benefit and enrich the lives of the young people supported by the charity. We are involved in open days for young people to come to GS1 UK offices, staff visits and offer a range of activities such as career coaching workshops.
