Food and product safety

Improve food and product safety by keeping a track of your products in the supply chain and save money at the same time

  • Know what your products are made of
  • Supply information for allergy sufferers
  • Ensure product recalls are fast, accurate and complete
  • Prevent counterfeit products entering the supply chain

You’ll quickly know the answer to these questions if you use traceability applications and systems built on GS1 standards.

Tracing food from the farm to the kitchen table

It’s increasingly difficult to trace food from one end of a highly globalised food chain to another. A food traceability system can help you know everything that happens to your food between the farm and the kitchen table.

Making sure you know where your food comes from

Consumers want to know more about their food today and products they buy. Is the food organic? Is it suitable for a vegan or a celiac? Is it Fairtrade? Traceability systems help make sure that only the right ingredients or parts enter the supply chain and end up in your products.

Improving product recalls

If something goes wrong and products must be recalled you need to be able to trace them. Traceability systems help you understand what ingredients or parts were used in every batch of the products you need to recall, and where every batch was delivered to. More importantly, traceability systems also improve quality assurance and inventory control – making recalls less necessary and less frequent.

Eliminating counterfeit products

Around the world, makeshift factories and laboratories produce counterfeit products that look exactly like the real ones. Counterfeiting is now so sophisticated that in some cases, even the brand owner can’t easily differentiate between real and fake. Traceability systems prevent counterfeit goods from entering the supply chain – protecting your brand, saving you money and ensuring consumer safety.

Improving patient safety

Counterfeit medical products are a serious problem that can harm patients and even kill them. Traceability systems mean medicines and medical products can be verified and authenticated throughout the gloabl supply chain, to protect patients and ultimately save lives.

The GS1 Global Traceability Standard

The GS1 Global Traceability Standard makes traceability systems possible on a global scale. It doesn’t matter how many companies are involved or how many borders are crossed as goods move down the supply chain to the consumer.

It can also help you to meet regulations and legal requirements as well as making you more efficient and profitable.
