The GS1 Product Image Specification outlines a set of standards for the creation and storage of digital images associated to products. The Specification is for product owners, suppliers, manufacturers and their imaging solution providers who need to provide product images in a globally accepted format. Typical uses are for online stores and product catalogues, managed by either the product owner or a separate retailer, and the production of marketing collateral, including brochures and print advertisements. The Specification can be used in any target market, locally or globally.

The Specification is expected to become a pre-requisite in the next phase of the image standards process which will determine how an image is moved within GDSN.
